Being a Communitarian Prepper is a lifelong journey that never ends. Just as we will never stop taking care of our family and loved ones, we should never stop learning and taking steps to prepare ourselves for possible emergency situations that may arise.
Below you can find a variety of spaces where I've collected links related to prepping, as well as some YouTube influencers I follow and continue to learn a lot from. I can't say I agree with EVERYTHING these YouTubers say and share, but I WILL recommend them because they've taught me valuable lessons and shared ideas I consider trustworthy.Â
Joe Fox (aka @VikingPreparedness on YouTube) is the author of the excellent 2014 book, "Survivalist Family: Prepared Americans for a Strong America" and shares a lot of wisdom when it comes to emergency preparedness. Joe is also a (apparently self-appointed) pastor... and speaks a lot about politics as well as faith in his various media channels. So I'm not endorsing all his views... but his video from a year ago, "Get Ready! (It's coming...) FOUR Things" is excellent and on point.
I've also ordered his wife's 2023 book, "Homestead Hints."
Like some other preppers on YouTube it's possible to focus (or be distracted) by Joe's 2A evangelism... But from what I've seen and read, he has a balanced approach to emergency preparedness that is wise.
I use the website Wakelet to collect links about a variety of topics, including Emergency Preparedness.
These links address a variety of topics relating to prepping.
Chris, the author of the popular YouTube channel "City Prepping," is a former US military intelligence officer and produces videos which focus on BOTH practical prepping skills as well as "current event updates" in which he helps viewers process and understand the news headlines.
He's a talented YouTuber who is able to quite effectively attract viewer attention with his video titles and thumbnails... but he also shares GOOD and sound information consistently.
"Doomscribbles" is a relatively new YouTube channel (started in December 2025) which has a variety of EXCELLENT quality prepper videos.
I also like the "narrated sketchnote" style. The author is using an AI voice (I think) and likely AI generated images, but the content is SOLID and the visual as well as auditory experience is good.
The Viking Preparedness video, "Get Ready! (It's coming...) FOUR Things" (17 min) is excellent. Pastor Joe Fox recommends 4 things for preppers and survivalists getting ready for emergencies and disasters:
Starvation (food and water)
Dealing with difficult people
Medical issues
Weather
More on his Patreon. His 2014 book (which I've purchased) is "Survivalist Family: Prepared Americans for a Strong America."
I can't speak for his theology (yet) because I haven't heard enough of it, but I do think he's on target with his recommendations. The main one I'd add is BUILD COMMUNITY. We can't face, overcome, and thive admist adversity for very long if we lack a supportive community.
With a title like, "What Kind of American Are You? | Morality & Civil War" you might think this is yet another civil war / zombie apocalypse is coming pro-gun video.
Wrong.
This video makes a detailed and persuasive case about why security IS important, but security / firearms is NOT where any of us should be spending the bulk of our money as well as energy / attention when it comes to prepping / emergency preparation. Video comments are generally very good too.
Highly recommended.
